Mounties in Port Alberni are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing man with a brain injury.

According to RCMP, 31-year-old Brandon Gabriel Cairney recently missed an appointment in Port Alberni, which is unusual, and his family hasn’t seen or heard from him two weeks. Police said Cairney has a brain injury and is faced with challenges every day.

Police said Cairney is a reclusive man who spends a lot of his time walking in and around the Alberni Valley by himself. He is known to walk to Mount Arrowsmith Regional Park, Nanaimo, the China Creek Campground and Stamp Falls Provincial Park.

Cairney is described by police as Caucasian, 6 feet (183 centimetres) tall, 180 pounds (82 kilograms), balding, with short brown hair. Police said he has brown eyes and is sometimes clean shaven, but also may have a full beard.

He is considered a high-risk missing person. Anyone who knows of Cairney’s whereabouts or may have seen him walking on the highway or on a trail is asked to call Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
