The Port Alberni Fire Department is asking people to keep away from the 2900-block of 8th Avenue as firefighters battle a structure fire Monday afternoon.
Just before 3:30 p.m., the fire department tweeted a video of smoke billowing out the windows of a house located across the street from Eighth Avenue Learning Centre.

A witness at the scene tells CHEK News that the couple inside the house got out safely.
“The fire is believed to have started on the back deck, but a full investigation will be launched tomorrow,” they said.
