A riverside trail in Duncan won’t be available for public use for the foreseeable future.

The City of Duncan recently announced that it has closed the riverside portion of a trail in Rotary Park indefinitely due to safety concerns and erosion.

Popular with residents, the trail is located near the Cowichan River, which according to the municipality, has eroded its banks and caused damage to sections of the trail.

“The Cowichan River has eroded its banks, washing away some of the trail and exposing tree roots, causing one tree to fall across the trail and destabilizing others,” the city said in a statement on its website.

There is no alternate trail available for users.
