An area of Hillside Avenue, from Gosworth Road and Belmont Avenue, being blocked off by Victoria Police

An area of Hillside Avenue, from Gosworth Road and Belmont Avenue, blocked off by Victoria police following the death of a 35-year-old man.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit wants to speak to a driver and a cyclist who they believe were in the area of a homicide on Hillside Avenue in Victoria earlier this month.

Joe Gauthier, a 35-year-old father of four, was found dead after Victoria police were called to the 1400-block of Hillside Avenue for a disturbance early in the morning on March 10. The case is being called a homicide.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) said they would like to speak to a driver, as well as any passengers, of a green car who may have stopped in the immediate area at around 5 a.m. on March 10. They would also like to speak to a cyclist who rode by and any other potential witnesses who were in the area around that same time.

Anyone with information is asked to call the VIIMCU Information Line at 250-380-6211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police have not released the identity of the man who died but family and friends have identified him as Gauthier. At this time, police said they have no information to suggest the greater public is at risk.
