Campbell River RCMP is looking for information after a man allegedly attempted to rob a teenage girl.

The girl was walking in a laneway in the 300-block of the Island Highway at around 2:35 p.m. on Nov. 15 when a man came and pushed her from behind, according to police.

They say the man then tried to take her backpack, but the girl fell and got tangled in some bushes with her backpack. The man then ran away without further incident, according to police.

Campbell River RCMP say the man is described as being five feet, 10 inches tall with a broad build. They say he was wearing black jeans and a black raincoat.

Cst. Maury Tyre of Campbell River RCMP says that while the area does not have issues like these often, it can be a good idea to still take precautions.

“It’s important to remember that these types of incidents involving complete strangers are very rare in Campbell River,” said Tyre. “However, it’s still worthwhile for people to walk in pairs when they can and stick to well-travelled paths to minimize risks.”

Police ask anyone with information to contact Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
