RCMP say a missing man from Surrey has made his way to Courtenay and might be camping in the area.

Stephen Mapes, 58, was reported missing to Surrey RCMP on April 2, 2019. Investigators in Surrey have determined Mapes made his way to Courtenay and might be camping in the area. Mapes family and police are concerned for his wellbeing as it is out of character for him to be out of touch for this long.

Mapes is described as Caucasian, six-feet-tall with a slim build. He has short grey hair and blue eyes. He is associated to a black Ford F-150 pickup truck with BC licence plate: DOG RVR.

The investigation is being handled by the Comox Valley RCMP. Anyone who sees Mapes or knows where he is can call Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321. To report anonymously, call Comox Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or comoxvalleycrimestoppers.bc.ca.
