Police say backcountry searches are ending for missing Errington mother

RCMP says no more backcountry searches are currently planned for a missing Errington mother who was last seen on Feb. 15 in the Nanoose Bay area.

Sara Sherry, 45, was last seen driving near Highway 19 and Northwest Bay Logging Road on Feb. 15, and was reported missing two days later on Feb. 17.

Since then, large searches, which included volunteers, police, search and rescue teams, and aircraft were launched in the area, but Sherry has not been found.

Her vehicle was found in a ditch in some snow on a logging road about 20 kilometres south of Highway 19 on Feb. 23.

However, Sherry was not found with the truck, and police say they have had no new leads or information on her whereabouts since then.

“Our missing person investigation remains open and active with Sara’s family receiving ongoing updates from investigators and support from Victim Services,” said Sgt. Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP in a release Thursday.

On March 10, longtime friend Sarah Galbraith said Sherry, a mother of two, was an avid hiker who liked exploring the mid-Island.

“She loves her family, she loves her animals, she loves her friends,” said Galbraith at the time.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111 and refer to file # 2024-1484.
