RCMP and search and rescue crews say they have found a truck belonging to missing Errington woman Sara Sherry, but Sherry herself remains missing for a ninth day.

On Saturday friends joined the search effort in Nanoose Bay’s Northwest Bay Logging Road.

“Sara is one of the most kind people that you could ever know. She would stop to help anybody,” Amber Dawe told CHEK News on Saturday, as she and friend Sue Sheppard set out on horseback to search.

Dawe told CHEK News that she doesn’t know why Sherry, a 45-year-old mother and wife who lives in Errington, was out on Northwest Bay Logging Road on Feb. 15, but is desperate to find her close friend.

“I hope we can have some good news. Her son, Owen, and her husband, Willy, are just devastated,” said Dawe.

The missing woman’s vehicle, a grey 2017 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, was located off a logging road about 20 kilometres south of the intersection of Highway 19 and Northwest Bay Logging Road on Friday afternoon.

Searchers say the truck was found in a ditch about 15 metres off the logging road, though Sherry herself was nowhere to be found.

“Since Friday afternoon and continuing into darkness, Arrowsmith Search and Rescue and their partners have been actively searching for Sara,” said Sgt. Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP in a release late Friday evening.

Mounties note that the backcountry area where Sherry’s vehicle was found is open to the public, and is a popular outdoor recreation spot.

“We are asking for those out there this weekend to be on the lookout for Sara,” said Worth.

“Arrowsmith Search and Rescue and civilian air search and rescue will be in the area throughout this weekend searching for Sara.”

Sherry is described as a Caucasian woman who stands 5’3” tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds. She has green eyes and blonde hair.

Anyone who spots Sherry is asked to call police immediately.
