Victoria Police are searching for a driver who fled the scene of a crash that narrowly missed hitting children nearby.

According to VicPD, officers received a report at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, after a collision occurred at the intersection of Lampson Street and Old Esquimalt Road in Esquimalt.

Upon investigating the incident, police discovered that a white truck had been travelling “at high speeds” along Lampson Street when it lost control.

The vehicle swerved and narrowly missed a group of children in the area before colliding with a fence at a nearby house.

The driver proceeded to flee the area following the collision.

“Luckily, no children were injured in the crash. It is unknown if the driver was hurt,” reads a statement from Victoria Police.

The vehicle is a small white Mazda B-series two-door pick-up truck with a white canopy and ladder rack.

Witnesses have reported to police that the vehicle was being driven by a male driver. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The man who fled the scene was last seen in the area of the 800-block of Old Esquimalt Road and the 500 to 600-block of Head Street. Below is a photo of a similar vehicle to the one involved in Thursday’s crash.
