Police look for help identifying suspect in string of shoplifting incidents in Port Alberni

Port Alberni RCMP are looking for help identifying a suspect in a string of shoplifting incidents in the city over the past three weeks.

The man is believed to be responsible for six separate shoplifting incidents including at the Walmart on Johnston Road.

He’s described as being between 30-35 years old, with a slender built, short dark hair and a dark mustache.

Meanwhile, a 30-year Port Alberni man has been arrested in connection with another string of shoplifting incidents the city over the past few months.

He is suspected in eight cases where approximately $5000 worth of property was stolen including one case where bear spray was used to escape capture.

Port Alberni RCMP say they’ve been responding to large-scale shoplifting calls at Walmart and other area businesses.

The suspects are taking large quantities of merchandise and are increasingly brazen in their tactics to avoid getting caught
