Saanich police are warning people in Gordon Head to be cautious after a mother bear with a cub was spotted on the grounds of the Queen Alexandra Centre for Children’s Health early Monday morning.

Police say a security guard at the hospital at 2400 Arbutus Road, saw the bears while patrolling the grounds around 3:15am. He lost of the bears as they headed toward a tree line near a beach, but later found scat near the entrance to one of the buildings.

The BC Conservation Officer Service has been notified. Police are asking people in the area to keep an eye out, and report any sightings to police or conservation officers.
