Police and search and rescue crews look for missing 41-year-old man near Duncan

Search and rescue teams from across southern Vancouver Island continue to look for 41-year-old Benjamin Kilmer in an area on the outskirts of Duncan.

The husband and father of two was reported missing on Wednesday afternoon. That evening, his vehicle was found running with his personal effects still inside.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said they are investigating the incident as a “suspicious occurrence.”

RCMP Police Dog Services, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP and 60 volunteers from search and rescue teams from Nanaimo, Salt Spring Island, Ladysmith and elsewhere are taking part in search.

It’s being carried out in a five kilometre area around Cowichan Lake Road and Menzies Road.

Police said at this time, they do not require public assistance in the search area. However, the public can keep an eye out for Kilmer if they are walking or hiking.

Kilmer is described by police as 5’7,” (170 centimetres)  205 pounds (93 kilograms) with short brown hair and blue eyes. He is clean shaven and was last seen wearing light-coloured pants, a black shirt and steel-toe work boots. He is from Cobble Hill.

Search continues in the Menzies Road and Cowichan Lake Road area.
