Police in Victoria have arrested the suspect in an alleged ‘random assault’ that took place in the city’s downtown Saturday morning.

A 29-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk in the  2900-block of Douglas Street when an unidentified man “threw his body” into her in what VicPD described as a “random” and “unprovoked” assault. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

VicPD had released surveillance footage of the incident.

In a media release issued Sunday afternoon, VicPD said the suspect was arrested in the 800-block of Caledonia Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The man was identified as the suspect in the assault and was arrested without incident taken to jail. He was then released on a notice to appear in court at a later date, according to VicPD.
