West Shore RCMP continue investigation after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in View Royal Wednesday evening.

A man is stable with non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the Island Highway in View Royal Wednesday night.

West Shore RCMP say the incident happened in the 130 block of Island Highway, near Admirals road, at 5:50 p.m. and the victim was taken to Victoria General Hospital.

Police say he remains in intensive care.

Witnesses told investigators the man in his 50s got off a bus and began jaywalking across the road before being struck.

The driver of the SUV, who is cooperating with officers, was unable to stop in time because of reduced visibility from the weather.

“Incidents such as this are a reminder to slow down in reduced visibility that comes with poor weather,” said West Shore RCMP Cst. Matt Baker in a release.
