Pedestrian slaps pickup truck that nearly hits him in Central Saanich, police seek witnesses

At around 12:20 p.m. on Aug. 24, an elderly gentleman stepped into a marked crosswalk at Wallace Drive and West Saanich Road and was nearly hit by a pickup truck, according to the Central Saanich Police Service.

Police in Central Saanich are hoping the public can provide them with information about a near hit-and-run.

At around 12:20 p.m. on Aug. 24, an elderly gentleman stepped into a marked crosswalk at Wallace Drive and West Saanich Road and was nearly hit by a pickup truck, according to the Central Saanich Police Service.

Police say the elderly man had just stepped off the sidewalk when a black 2021 GMC Sierra abruptly turned right from West Saanich Road onto Wallace Drive and nearly hit him.

Police say the man “stopped in his tracks” and “slammed the box of the truck with his hand” as it drove off.

Central Saanich Police say they are hoping to speak to the man or anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
