WATCH: Some tense moments in downtown Victoria Tuesday afternoon. Police were called to the CRA building after a suspicious package was found outside of the building. Tess van Straaten reports.
Victoria police have determined a suspicious package found at a federal government building in downtown Victoria is not a threat.
Victoria police evacuated the Canada Revenue Agency’s Vancouver Island Tax Services Office at 1415 Vancouver Street and closed sections of Vancouver and Johnson streets at around 2:00 p.m. while they investigated a report of a suspicious package.
A bomb-response robot from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team was deployed to the scene. The robot was used to determine the package was not a treat.
Police said a person did see a bag left by an unknown woman and officers later confirmed the package was a red backpack that contained personal items. It was left under a tax return drop-off box. No charges are being considered.
