Employees working for the City of Parksville will need to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The City of Parksville announced Tuesday that they are moving towards implementing a mandatory vaccination policy for its employees.

Once implemented, all city employees, contractors, volunteers and on-call firefighters will be required to show proof of vaccination status.

“We continue to review best practices for the protection
of our staff and the public to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and enable the city to provide uninterrupted essential and important municipal services,” the municipality said in a press release on its website.

No deadline for when employees must be vaccinated was given.

However, the city says the policy and an implementation plan will be finalized in the coming days.

A handful of municipalities on Vancouver Island, including the City of Nanaimo, have implemented similar vaccination policies.
