A 54-year-old Parksville man faces fraud and theft charges after allegedly soliciting over a half-million dollars between 2014 and 2016.

James Waring Minnie, who is also known as Terry James Minnie, was arrested October 16 after an investigation by the  B.C. Securities Commission’s Criminal Investigations Branch.

A warrant for Minnie’s arrest was issued and he was arrested in Parksville.

Minnie is alleged to have solicited more than $500,000 from two B.C. investors and claimed the money was needed for various business ventures.

The B.C.S.C reports Minnie allegedly spent the bulk of the money on personal expenses.

Minnie is charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000 and two counts of theft over $5,000.

Along with Oceanside RCMP who assisted in Minnie’s arrest, the investigation also included Victoria Police and Quesnel RCMP.

Minnie is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
