Local celebrity Pamela Anderson is under fire after tweeting a pair of photos on Oct. 31 that depict her semi-nude along with a feathered headdress.
The photos were captioned “Happy Halloween.”
The photos drew rapid condemnation both on and offline, with several replies accusing Anderson of insensitivity and of degrading First Nations communities and culture.
“Warbonnets are not props or accessories they’re sacred, they’re earned,” read one reply. “Culture isn’t a costume, it’s not disposable, it’s not an aesthetic. This is degrading & insensitive to #MMIW due to hypersexualized imagery. In doning [sic] a headdress you’ve also participated in stolen valor.”
