Over 1,000 residents are without power on Thursday morning after a vehicle, carrying a mobile house, collided with a set of power lines in East Sooke.

Over 1,000 residents were without power for most of Thursday after a truck, carrying a mobile house, collided with a set of power lines in East Sooke.

According to BC Hydro’s outage map, the power – which had been off since around 6:00 a.m. – was affecting 1,141 customers in the area.

The vehicle incident occurred early Thursday morning along Gillespie Road.

Crews were on-site working to restore the power to the area, resulting in the road’s closure.

With the road closed, the Sooke School District tweeted out that school buses would be unable to get through for East Sooke students. The district was advising both parents and students to rideshare and “reach out to each other.”

By Thursday evening, power was back on in the area.
