The Nanaimo RCMP are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man who attempted to steal upwards of $500 worth of items from the Real Canadian Superstore.

The Nanaimo RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who attempted to steal upwards of $500 worth of items from the Real Canadian Superstore.

In a police report issued on Thursday, police say that the incident took place at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the store located on Metral Drive.

Investigators said that the store security informed them that the man in question allegedly was seen filling a cart with items and observed leaving the store without making an attempt to pay.

According to police, after the man exited Superstore into the parking lot, security intervened and advised him “he was under arrest.”

At this point, the man surrender the items and took off running, police said.

The report suggests he was last seen running eastbound across Metral Drive.

Police are describing the suspect as an Indigenous man, approximately 5 ft. 7, slight build and believed to be 20-25 years old.

He was wearing a disposable face mask, black Adidas jacket and a Puma hoodie.
