Rainy weather and a pandemic couldn’t stop an outdoor Christmas market in Sidney from going ahead.

The first annual Sidney Outdoor Christmas Market took place at the parking lot of the Mary Winspear Centre Sunday, attracting dozens of people despite the rain.

Darren Westwood, organizer of the outdoor market, said he was thrilled with how the event turned out.

“It’s never been done before in this area and it worked,” he said.

The event, which is modelled after European markets, featured more than 65 different vendors selling a range of products including jewellery, artwork, processed foods, bath and beauty products. Food trucks and entertainers were also on hand.

Though it was just a one-day event, Westwood says it was such a success that they are considering doing it again next year.
