Thousands on Vancouver Island who were in the dark on Sunday, now have power.

BC Hydro says it has restored power to more than 2,500 customers following an array of outages on the Island. There were 2,549 customers without power before noontime Sunday, with the majority of them located in the Greater Victoria area.

Nearly 1,500 customers located in Langford and the Highlands, southeast of Finlayson Arm Road and north of Valley Drive, are without power. BC Hydro says crews are investigating and power should be restored by 3 p.m. Sunday.

A total of 397 customers were without power in Bamfield, though BC Hydro says power is expected to be restored within the hour.

Elsewhere, pockets of Saanich, View Royal, Metchosin, Colwood, Nanaimo, and the Cowichan Valley were also experiencing power outages Sunday.

According to BC Hydro’s website, the majority of outages were caused by trees down on wires.
