One man dead after head-on collision on Highway 19 north of Campbell River

UPDATE: DriveBC  says a stretch of Highway 19 is now open to single lane alternating traffic from Campbell River to 25 km north of the city.

A man in his 30’s has died after his sedan crossed over the centre line and was struck by a pickup truck 25 kilometres north of Campbell River on Highway 19.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the driver of the truck was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the other driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP are investigating the collision and an accident reconstruction team is on the scene.

Both vehicles had only one occupant.
