The District of Lantzville is advising the public that a member of Council has lost a USB memory stuck that may contain sensitive information.

The device contained details in relation to the business of the District during a period between 2014 and 2018.

The loss was reported to the District on June 7th and has also been reported to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of B.C.

A press release from the District says that there is no evidence to date that information on the device has been accessed without authority.

It is in the process of trying to identify information that may have been included on the device and to personally notify individuals who could be affected

It adds that as a precaution “If you have provided Councillor (John) Coulson with correspondence, other documentation or information during this period that you consider to be of a confidential or sensitive nature, it is advisable to watch for signs of any unexpected or improper use of that information.”

It encourages those people to monitor  bank and credit card statements, and report any unusual activity immediately to their financial institution.

If you have any questions, you’re asked to contact Trudy Coates, Director of Corporate Administration or Ronald Campbell, Chief Administrative Officer at 250-390-4006.
