One arrested after man stabbed with screwdriver in Saanich

Saanich police say a man who was stabbed on Halloween is in the hospital in critical condition.

Police say a Saanich man was arrested on Halloween after another man was stabbed with a screwdriver and seriously injured.

At around 11 p.m. on Oct. 31, a Saanich police officer saw a fight on Lansdowne Road at Aldridge Street. Police say a group of people fled when the officer arrived.

Officers then found a 20-year-old Victoria man who was seriously injured. According to police, the man had attempted to intervene in a physical fight between two women. Another man then allegedly stabbed him with a screwdriver.

The man was taken to hospital with a puncture wound that penetrated his lung, along with cuts and scratches. Police say the man is still in hsopital with a collapsed lung. He is in critical but stable condition.

The stabbing suspect, a 24-year-old man from Saanich, was arrested at the scene. The Saanich PD K9 unit located the screwdriver believed to have been used in the incident in some bushes nearby.

Police say alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor in the incident.

The charges being recommended to Crown Counsel include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, fail to comply with recognizance and fail to comply with probation.
