Oceanside RCMP search for suspect after reports of assault on woman walking her dog in Qualicum Beach

The search continues for a suspect after an older woman says a man grabbed her breasts from behind while she was out walking her dog in Qualicum Beach on Monday.

RCMP say it happened around 8:15 a.m. on the wooded trails behind the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.

The woman says a man was masturbating in the woods and called out to her, she tried to ignore him and that’s when she was grabbed from behind.

She tells police the man then fled on foot.

He is described as 30-40 years old, medium height with a stocky build and a dark or olive complexion. He was reportedly wearing all dark clothing.

RCMP are also looking into a possible link between that incident and one that happened at 9 a.m. Monday on the trails near the Springwood Park water tower on Despard Avenue in Parksville.

An older woman also tells police she noticed a man masturbating in the woods. She yelled out at him and he fled the area.

RCMP say the description of the suspect in both incidents is a close match.

They are reminding people to be aware of their surroundings while enjoying the area’s walking trials.

If you have any information, please call Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111, and RCMP say should you see someone exposing himself, please call 911 immediately.
