North Saanich’s Mayor, Geoff Orr, has announced he will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming municipal election.

Orr was first elected to council in 2014, then as mayor in 2018.

“I have enjoyed the role of Mayor while finding it simultaneously both rewarding and challenging,” Orr said in a statement. “I am by nature a gentle soul who believes in practicing empathy and compassion. I must confess that the cumulative impact of recent conflict generated by various community issues has been hard on many – myself included.”

Orr says he feels privileged to have shared the council table with his colleagues and working at the municipal hall with the employees.

“After considerable thought over the past four months, I have made the decision not to run for office in the October 15, 2022 municipal election,” Orr said.

“It is now time for me to transition into a new phase of my life. I’m looking forward to exploring new possibilities that will allow me to contribute in a positive and meaningful way that completely aligns with my core values.”
