The North Cowichan Fire Department recently took delivery of a brand new $1.45 million Pierce Enforcer aerial truck.

The 12-metre-long fire truck can pump 7,570 litres per minute and carries a 1,900-litre water tank plus a 110-litre auto-injection foam system. Its ladder can reach more than 32 metres, making it the tallest in the Cowichan Valley, according to the Municipality of North Cowichan.

“This is an exciting day for our fire department,” said North Cowichan Mayor Al Siebring. “This ladder truck will no doubt be a tremendous asset, not just for our fire department and our communities, but also for the dedicated paid-on-call members.”

The new truck will be stationed at the South End fire hall but will serve all of North Cowichan as well as neighbouring First Nations communities via mutual aid agreements.

The older ladder truck, which was previously stationed at the South End, is now stationed in Chemainus.
