Victoria police say no one was injured after a driver who was believed to be impaired by drugs crashed into the side of a building early Thursday morning.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the 1000-block of Yates Street.

The car reportedly drove up onto the sidewalk and crashed into the side of the Moxies’ restaurant building, causing “extensive damage” to the vehicle and “some damage to surrounding property,” according to VicPD.

Moxie’s owner Lindsey Wilson says the restaurant is open as usual, save for some damage to an exterior wall and window.

“Luckily, nobody was hurt, and luckily businesses weren’t open and luckily we’re still able to operate, because there’s no structural damage,” he said.

He added that the adjacent business, Orange Theory, also suffered some damage in the crash.

Firefighters, police and paramedics responded to the crash.

Police say the driver of the car was medically cleared by paramedics, but was determined to be impaired by drugs.

They were issued a 24-hour driving ban and their vehicle was towed from the scene.

“No other drivers, pedestrians, or cyclists were around when this occurred,” said VicPD in a statement Thursday.
