RCMP say there is no evidence at this time to suggest a threat to Sooke or Edward Milne following a hold-and-secure procedure on Thursday.

On Nov. 7, the Edward Milne Community School was put into a hold-and-secure for just under three hours. Police said they had received a complaint about a man possibly planning a serious incident at Edward Milne Community School.

The suspect was arrested the same day but has now been released from custody.

“There is no evidence to suggest a threat to the community or school at this time,” Sooke RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Brett Sinden said in a statement.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and they are asking people with first-hand information to come forward. According to police, the investigation needs to be based on facts and first-hand information, adding rumours, speculation and hearsay from social media are “unnecessarily hampering this investigation.”

“We need people who have first-hand information to come forward and speak with officers. Investigators are finding posts online indicating weapons and threats that are not part of the investigation, and do nothing but stoke fear in the public. I urge anyone with first-hand information to come forward to the Sooke RCMP detachment and speak with an officer, to ensure the actual facts are known in an effort to further the investigation. We continue to work closely with the Edward Milne Community School, and the school district as this investigation proceeds, and thank them for their support during this investigation,” Sinden said in a statement.
