Oak Bay police say they have recovered a car that was stolen from a 74-year-old newspaper carrier in a violent incident over the weekend.

According to police, a tip from the public led officers to a stolen Oldsmobile parked illegally at a parking lot near Quadra and View streets. The vehicle has been returned to the owner. Police said he is happy to have it back but they are still looking for the suspect.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Oak Bay police at 250-592-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Police said the suspect in the incident was a man and he was wearing dark clothes at the time of the robbery.

The man allegedly pushed the newspaper carrier to the ground on Island Road at around 3 a.m. Sunday morning, stole his keys and then took off in the Oldsmobile.
