William and Kate’s third child was born Monday and is the fifth in line to the throne after his grandfather Prince Charles, his father and his two older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The young royal’s name pays tribute to Lord Louis Mountbatten, Charles’ great-uncle and mentor, who was killed by an Irish Republican Army bomb in 1979.
The announcement of Prince Louis’ name has spurred plenty of reaction, including from Harry Potter author J.K Rowling’s digital publishing company Pottermore, tweeting “Louis Arthur Charles, you were named after three iconic Weasleys.”

Meanwhile, History TV’s Dan Snow gave an educational tweet for the name, saying “The last time a Prince Louis was anywhere near the throne Hubert De Burgh filled the breach of Dover Castle with his slaughters followers and William the Marshal crushed his army at Lincoln, sending him scurrying back to Daddy France. Anyway, all the best, etc.”
