OTTAWA — A new poll suggests Conservative voters are far clearer about what they want in a new leader for their party than who should fill that job.
The Leger Marketing survey suggests 29 per cent of decided Conservative voters don’t know who they’d choose to head their party.
Of Tory voters’ top two choices, former prime minister Stephen Harper isn’t running and former interim leader Rona Ambrose is undecided.
Those two also led the pack among all the Canadians Leger surveyed, of all partisan loyalties, and in third was former cabinet minister Peter MacKay.
But the poll suggests Conservative supporters have more decisive views on what their new leader should stand for: 82 per cent want a focus on maintaining a balanced budget and 63 per cent want the number of immigrants to Canada decreased.
Leger polled 1,554 Canadian voters between Jan. 3 and 7, but the poll can’t be assigned a margin of error because polls from Internet panels are not random samples.
