A new trail has opened in Colwood, which is part of a growing network of paths intended to connect the mountain communities with the beaches.

The City of Colwood officially opened the Applegate Trail earlier this month, which runs behind Dressler Road from Wishart Road to the Painter Trail.

The trail connects to Royal Bay Secondary School, which will make it easier for students to walk or bike to school from nearby neighbourhoods.

The new path also links to the North Ridge Trail that winds its way up to Metchosin Road.

It will soon be part of a network of trails linking to Meadow Park and Murrays Pond Park, with future connections to trails on the other side of Latoria Boulevard and into Latoria Creek Park.

The municipality says the Applegate Trail is a key piece in connecting the mountains to the beaches in order to link neighbourhoods and the growing community.

“New connections like this one move our community toward the goal of a concentric network of sea to sky trails that link our parks and neighbourhoods in healthy and beautiful ways,” reads a statement from the City of Colwood.
