Nanaimo soccer player drafted 4th overall in MLS SuperDraft

WATCH: Callum Montgomery reacts from his hotel room in Chicago after hearing his name called at the 2019 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. 

The 21-year-old centre-back was selected fourth-overall by FC Dallas. Montgomery grew up in Lantzville and played community soccer in Nanaimo. The St. Michael’s University School grad spent his teenage years playing with the V.I. Wave program in Victoria, before continuing his development with the Victoria Highlanders Prospects Program. Montgomery spent the last four years playing in the NCAA with the University of North Carolina Charlotte, emerging as one of the top young defenders in NCAA Division 1 soccer. During his senior year in 2018, Montgomery was named a First Team All-American and the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year. Montgomery also spent the past two summers serving as captain of the Victoria Highlanders in the Premier Development League.
