Additional COVID-19 exposure dates were added to a handful of Naniamo schools.
Over the weekend, Island Health added more potential exposure dates at Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School, Nanaimo District Secondary School (NDSS) and Bayview Elementary School to its COVID-19 school exposure list.
Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School experienced possible exposures on Feb. 3, 4 and 5. Previous exposure dates at Qwam Qwum occurred on Jan. 27, 28 and 29.
Nanaimo District Secondary School (NDSS) experienced an exposure on Feb. 3. Previous exposure dates at NDSS were on Jan. 27, 28 and Feb. 1 and 2.
Bayview Elementary School experienced an exposure event on Feb. 3. Previous exposure dates at the south Nanaimo school were on Jan. 25, 27, 28, 29 and Feb. 1 and 2.
A handful of Nanaimo schools have been dealing with either COVID-19 clusters or exposure events.
Both Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School, Bayview Elementary School along with Rock City Elementary School are experiencing clusters of COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, Brechin Elementary School and John Barsby Community School have recently experienced exposure events, with the most recent date for both schools occurring on Feb. 1.
Island Health defines an exposure is defined as a single person with lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period while a cluster is defined as “two or more individuals with lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.”
The health authority says it is working to identify anyone who may have been exposed.
If a parent or guardian does not receive a phone call or letter from public health, a child can continue to attend school, according to Island Health.

- Bayview Elementary School – Jan. 25, 27, 28, 29 as well as Feb. 1, 2, and 3
- Brechin Elementary School – Feb. 1
- John Barsby Community School – Jan. 28, 29 and Feb. 1
- Nanaimo District Secondary School – Jan. 27, 28 as well as Feb. 1, 2 and 3
- Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School – Jan. 27, 28, 29 and Feb. 3, 4 and 5
- Rock City Elementary School – Jan. 26, 27, 27, 29 and Feb. 1
