Nanaimo RCMP are still looking for 72-year-old Rick Larson who has been missing since last Thursday.

Nanaimo RCMP, along with RCMP Air Service and Nanaimo Search and Rescue (NSAR), have searched the shoreline along Haliburton Street, local parks and Westwood Lake, where Larson liked to go hiking.

Search and rescue crews also went door-to-door, brought in search dogs, and used bicycles to cover more terrain in the parks, paths and trails scattered throughout Nanaimo. However, there has been no sign of Larson.

“Investigators have been unable to find anything to indicate where Mr. Larson may have ventured to. As a result, NSAR have ceased their search efforts but are prepared to reconvene at short notice, if there are any positive developments in the investigation,” Const. Gary O’Brien, media relations officer for the Nanaimo RCMP, said in a release.

Police said Larson is an avid hiker who walks upwards of 10 kilometres a day and often carries a backpack with him. He was last seen on the morning of Oct 25 in the area of the Petroglyph Park in south Nanaimo after he walked away from his home.

Larson is described as Caucasian, clean shaven, 6’2″ and 230 pounds. He may be wearing a black hat, a black backpack, and blue jeans.

The picture police have provided of Larson is recent.

Anyone with information on Larson’s whereabouts is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
