Nanaimo RCMP say Charmaine Mitchell, 48, went missing in July 2021.

Nanaimo RCMP are seeking help from the public to locate a 48-year-old woman who has been missing for more than a year.

In a Thursday news release, Mounties say Charmaine Mitchell, who occasionally goes by the name El Chapo, hasn’t been seen or heard from since July 2021.

According to RCMP, Mitchell “has had her struggles over the years.” As a result, she has drifted away from her immediate family, who recently contacted police to assist in locating her.

“She has no phone, she does not drive a motor vehicle, and she lives a transient lifestyle. She is also known to frequent downtown Nanaimo,” RCMP said in the release.

Police describe Mitchell as a Caucasian woman standing at 5’10” with a thin build and blonde hair. She frequently wears bandanas and has rose and tribal tattoos on her left arm, as well as a rose tattoo on her right hand.

Anyone with information about Mitchell’s whereabouts is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file 2022-35301.
