RCMP in Nanaimo are asking for the public’s help in what they are calling a possible abduction or domestic assault.

According to police, at around 10 a.m. on Aug. 16 in the 100 block of Skinner Street, near the Bastion Street parkade, witnesses heard a woman scream. Witnesses told police when they went outside, they saw a man hitting a woman several times with a closed fist and then dragging her into a nearby vehicle.

Police said the vehicle, which is described as a gold/beige Buick, sped off onto Benson Street and was last seen heading toward Comox Road. Numerous officers looked for the vehicle in the area but could not find the vehicle or its occupants.

To date, RCMP have not received any further reports about the man or the vehicle. The woman has not come forward about the incident and the vehicle has not been located.

“Officers canvassed the area extensively to determine if there were any video surveillance but unfortunately none was found. We are at the point now in the investigation where assistance from the public is required to further this investigation,” Const. Gary O’Brien, spokesman for the Nanaimo RCMP, said in a statement.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
