RCMP found the stabbing victim on this bus bench near Port Place mall.

A man is recovering in hospital after police say he was stabbed multiple times in the head in downtown Nanaimo Sunday morning.

At around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 14, Nanaimo RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing on Front Street and found a victim on a bus bench near Port Place Shopping Centre.

“When members arrived, they found an individual had serious stab wounds to his head,” Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien told CHEK News.

Officers did emergency first aid before paramedics arrived and rushed the man to hospital where he remains in stable condition, according to O’Brien.

He says that shortly after police arrived on scene, a woman was arrested without incident for aggravated assault. She remains in custody and no charges have been laid.

Police are trying to determine whether the man and the woman knew one another.
