Anyone heading to BC Ferries to get a head start on their long weekend travel should expect to wait, as there is a multi-sailing wait for the major routes Friday.

At 12:45 p.m., on the Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen route, BC Ferries was already ticketing for the 7:30 p.m. leaving Swartz Bay and 5:30 p.m. leaving Tsawwassen with all earlier sailings sold out for vehicle traffic.

Further north, the wait times are a little better, with the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay sailing ticketing for the 3:45 p.m. leaving Horseshoe Bay and 3:20 p.m. leaving Departure Bay.

On the Duke Point to Tsawwassen route, sailings leaving Duke Point are ticketing for the 5:45 p.m. sailing, and 3:15 p.m. leaving Tsawwassen.

BC Ferries recommends people travelling with a reservation to arrive around 45-60 minutes early for the sailing to ensure you make it past the ticketing gates in time. Walk on passengers should plan to arrive 45 minutes early.

Those walking on are encouraged to ride share or take public transit to the terminal, as parking capacity can fill up.

As of 12:45 p.m., Tsawwassen has 80 per cent of its long term parking spaces available, Swartz Bay has 30 per cent available, Horseshoe Bay has 80 per cent available, Departure Bay has 25 per cent available, and Duke Point has 65 per cent available.
