Officials at Mount Washington say recent snow storms have turned the resort into a winter wonderland and will be open to skiers, snowboarders and tubers Saturday.

“A few storms rolled through this week leaving us with a good base to get things started. With lots of snow in the forecast, we are looking forward to a great holiday season,” Resort spokesperson Sheila Rivers said in a statement.

More snow fell Friday morning and the resort says the mountain’s base is at 40 centimetres with more than 16 centimetres of new snow in the last 48 hours.

Mt. Washington is offering its Discovery Days free ski or snowboard lessons during the first week of opening for those 13-years and older.

It is the second year the free lessons have been offered by the resort, which had more than 1,000 participants last year.

Rivers says the Whiskey Jack chairlift, the full Easy-Acres beginner area to accommodate the Discovery Days lessons, and the Snow Tubing Park will be available Saturday, with more runs opening as snow conditions allow.
