A 28-year-old has been airlifted to a Victoria hospital with life threatening injuries following a crash in Nanaimo.

Two people are in hospital following a crash involving three motorcycles in south Nanaimo yesterday.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, a Honda Civic was making a U-turn Morden Road, near the intersection of Morden and Waring Road, in South Wellington, at around 4 p.m. on April 18, when it collided with a motorcycle.

One of the riders who collided with the passenger side of the Civic, a 28-year-old, has been airlifted to a Victoria hospital with life threatening injuries. Another motorcycle rider, a 30-year-old who was following the 28-year-old, was also injured and taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with serious injuries. A third rider, a 46-year-old, received minor injuries but did not need to go to hospital.

“This is the second significant crash within a week in Nanaimo, involving a motor vehicle and motorcycles, resulting in serious injuries to the motorcyclists,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP media spokesperson, in a press release.

The driver of the Honda Civic and his female passenger were not injured and remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to Nanaimo RCMP, who said alcohol and drugs have been ruled out in the crash and all vehicles involved, have been seized and will undergo mechanical inspections.
