A new survey has shown that Canadians appear to be relatively enjoying the experience of working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leger, a polling and market research firm, has released a new survey entitled “Concerns About COVID-19,” with the results showing that 50 percent of employed Canadians are currently working remotely.

Here in BC, that number of remote workers is the lowest of any province at 42 percent of those employed.

The Leger poll suggests that people are finding the adjustment challenging – with 40 percent of those surveyed saying it has been somewhat or very hard – but it seems the difficulties haven’t turned people off of working remotely.

Nearly eight-in-10 Canadians, or 79 percent, say the experience is positive, according to the survey results.

Of those who have been enjoying the experience, 56 percent marked that things were somewhat positive, while 23 percent said working from home was a very positive experience.

The results, however, did point to certain factors playing a key part in satisfaction levels.

Those reporting the most positive time working from home were on the younger side, as 88 percent of Canadians aged 18-to-34 seemed to be liking the remote working environment. The next age group with the highest satisfaction levels were over the age of 55 (82 percent).

In addition, another big factor was children as 81 percent of those who are enjoying the experience have no little ones at home.

The latest Leger survey also covered a range of other topics including homeschooling, concerns of relatives living in senior’s homes, and government satisfaction.

Working from home might be the new normal as well, with BC’s health experts pointing to several more months of restrictions.
