A home in Metchosin has been damaged following a Sunday morning fire.

Firefighters with the Metchosin Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Hi-Mount Drive at around 8:35 a.m. Sunday.

Stephanie Dunlop, fire chief with the Metchosin Fire Department, told CHEK News when crews arrived on the scene, they discovered a single-family dwelling —  a second storey suite above a garage — fully engulfed.

“We responded to find a fully engulfed single-family dwelling that’s actually a second storey suite above a garage and it had been going for quite a while,” Dunlop said, adding that the fire was through the roof and windows by the time firefighters arrived.

Crews from nearby departments including East Sooke and Sooke also attended the scene and the blaze was under control within 30 minutes.

There were no injuries as the occupants of the second-storey suite were not home at the time, according to Dunlop.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
