BC Hydro personnel are trying to restore power that has left all of Cortez Island near Cambell River with an outage Friday morning.
A spokesperson for the Crown corporation, Karla Louwers, says the outage happened in the Lund area on the Sunshine Coast, about 27 kilometres north of Powell River.
The power went out just after 8:30 a.m. affecting 964 BC Hydro customers, with the majority of those on Cortez Island.
BC Hydro crews are now on site.
Louwers says stormy conditions Thursday night may have led to a branch coming down on a line, but that is not yet confirmed.
Louwers is reminding residents to be prepared for a power outage as the coast heads into the stormy season.
She says people should make sure they have an emergency kit, check that all items like flashlights are working and to have a plan in case of an outage.
