No one was injured after fire ripped through a modular home in Errington, leaving behind a charred building that is uninhabitable for the time being.

The fire broke out in the home, one of several modular units located near the intersection of Church Road and Alberni Highway 4A, on Friday afternoon.

In video submitted to CHEK News, a massive jet of flame can be seen pouring through an open window. Fire crews from Errington Volunteer Fire Department can also be seen attacking the blaze as smoke bellows out from the structure’s windows.

The person living in the home was outside when the fire sparked and was not injured, according to Errington Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief George Klemm.

But flames did a number on the unit and victim services is connecting the person with a place to stay while investigators assess the full extent of the damage.

Klemm credited the region’s mutual aid response program, including firefighters from Coombs and Parksville, for a quick response time.

The fire was still in the mop-up stage as of 6:05 p.m.
