VicPD say David Johnstone, missing since July 27, has been found deceased.

The search for a “high-risk” man missing from Victoria since July 27 has come to a tragic end, according to police.

In a news release Friday, VicPD say David Johnstone, 63, was found deceased on Thursday, Aug. 18, in Victoria.

“David’s death is believed to be non-suspicious,” VicPD said, also noting that the BC Coroners Service has launched its own investigation to determine the facts surrounding his death.

Following David’s disappearance, Reginald and Jen Johnstone, David’s dad and stepmom, said they were told by police that David took a taxi to Clover Point and did not return home.

Reginald told CHEK News that David had been struggling with his mental health for the past few years, and Jen recalled her stepson having a hard time dealing with being isolated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“He was hospitalized where we couldn’t go in and see him or anything there either,” Jen told CHEK News. “We had to rely on phone calls and stuff. It was difficult to maintain that rapport when you’re not able to visit.”

VicPD say David’s family is aware of his passing. “We extend our condolences to David’s family and friends,” police added.
