One person was taken to hospital following a crash between a pickup truck and box truck in Ladysmith on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway early Wednesday morning near the intersection of Davis Road and the highway.

RCMP tells CHEK News that a Ford pickup truck is believed to have hydroplaned on the highway before crossing the centre median and hitting the box truck.

Police initially believed there were only minor injuries in the crash, but BC Emergency Health Service says two ambulances are called to the scene and one person was taken to hospital by paramedics, though BCEHS did not elaborate on the extent of the injuries.

Paramedics were called to the crash just after 5:20 a.m. A CHEK News reporter who was driving past the scene says northbound traffic on the highway was completely blocked around 7:45 a.m.

By 9 a.m., the roadway had reopened after crews cleared the scene, according to RCMP.
